The effect of computer assisted animations on development of graphics drawing and interpretation skills: Velocity sample in our lives

Graphic drawing and interpretation skills have been tried to be taught in the early years of primary education. Graphs are often used in many areas such as Science and Technology courses. Graphing skills are essential in understanding scientific data. Results from the investigation revealed that the students have difficulty in interpreting the graphical information in the science course and making relation between the mathematical contents. So, this research is based on ?motion graphs? for improving student?s graph skills.The purpose of this study has been to develop computer based instruction material and to analyse effectiveness of drawing and interpreting graphics of skills. The study has been conducted with 42 experiment groups and 40 control groups totally 82 6th grade students using semi-experimental method. Whereas subject motion graphics experimental group was taught with Constructivist approach which is based on computer based instruction, control group was taught just with a constructivist approach based 5E model. Before and after application, motion graphics drawing graphs and interpreting test was applied for the changes in students' ability to determine. For evaluating the effectiveness of the material, the teachers and the selected students were at the interviewed end of the application. Also, observations of the learning process were examined.Analysis of results show that both experimental and control groups graphical skills were improved. According to the post test results, when computer based instruction method is used, contructivist approach is more effective than 5E model of contructivist approach in Science and Technology courses. Also qualitative results support the other quantitative results. Both the teacher and the students think that computer-aided animations are effective and efficient. Graphic skills which are used learned in matchematic courses by the students should be transfered to Science and Technology courses with cooperation of the teachers.
