Evaluation of science and art center students' opinion about middle school 5-8. grades visual art lesson

The art of painting has been used as a mean of expression from the primitiveages when the mankind's adventure of life begins, until the present days which technology is centred.The globalizing world man, who is described as a digital native trying to catch up with the dizzying speed of science and technology that aims to improve the quality of life by meeting the needs of people, meet the aesthetic need with art. Gifted and talented individuals who are the capital of information age serve as a locomotive in society. Countries that are conscious about using of brain power of these gifted and talented individuals give great importance for their education. With this conscious, Turkey has introduced Science and Art Centersin order to identify future scientist and artist at a young age and present education in accordance with their intelligence levels. Gifted and talented young population is an investment to the future. Training the gifted and talented young generation at the center of phenomena such as accurate impulse, inner motivation and aesthetic sensivity, will result in success. The aim of the research is to determine the ratio of academic achievement and artistic production also emphasize the importance of Visual Art course by determining the Science and Art Center students' opinions about Visual Art course. In research, the scan survey which is one of the types of quantitative research was conducted. The visual arts survey developed by the researcher with the help of expert opinion was carried out to 74 students at the age of 11-13 who continue to Diyarbakır Science and Art Center. Frequency and percentage analysis of the data is done with SPSS 22.0 program. The reliability coefficient of the visual arts survey (Cronbach's Alpha) is determined as 0.85. 25 of the students who participate in the study is female and 49 is male. 60 of the students are registered in the General Talent Area and 14 of students are registered in the Special Talent (vısual art, music) fields. According to research results: there are problems especially in the implementation of the cultural heritage learning which is one of the Visual Art course curriculum; museum trips are not organized; the use of smart board in Visual Art course is low and Visual Art course duration is insufficient. In addition; it is concluded that Visual Art courses are taught in studios and technology is used in the course; Visual Art teachers motivate students to draw picture and they are democratic in class.
