A research on the effect of big data in strategy development process in informatics businesses

With the advancement of technology in the globalizing world and the use of the internet in every field, the power of data has come to the fore and many cases in the internet world have started to be known as information dump. It was thought that meaningful data could be obtained from this dump in other words the data lake and big data emerged. The data obtained from various sources such as social media data, business world, bureaucracy, education, health, logistics, insurance, traffic, banking and finance are subjected to some analyzes and are used by enterprises in strategic management processes. In order to survive in a global competitive environment, businesses use data from this big data pool to make use of existing and future strategies. In the literature on how big data is perceived by managers and experts and how it is used in strategy processes, not many studies on the information sector have been reached and it is seen that there is not enough information accumulation due to being a new phenomenon. This aspect of the research is thought to contribute to current and future users and field literature related to the perception and use of big data. In this direction, it is aimed to be able to benefit from the petroleum of the new economy to the maximum extent and to make a difference about how it can make a difference, increase its market shares and become a successful enterprise by processing the data obtained from the sector and its external environment by making strategic plans. The general purpose of this research is to examine the effects of big data on strategic management and strategy development process in IT enterprises, to understand the perspectives of IT enterprises' managers for big data, to learn what kind of activities are carried out in the field and to examine how they carry out their strategic plans in the new world formed by big data. Qualitative research method was used in the research and action research was used as research pattern. In order to collect information about the purpose of this study, nine open-ended questions were created. The datas were collected by face-to-face interview technique with the managers of the enterprises. The data were analyzed by using content analysis. As a result; that the benefits of big data in the strategy development process of enterprises in the IT sector are combined with many benefits, convenience and difficulties; It is determined that the application stage is in the medium level and theoretically stage is in the high level. It has been determined that this is mainly due to environmental uncertainties and material difficulties. Regarding the current situation, providing more support to enterprises by instituons like KOSGEB, opening vocational training and graduate departments, supporting human resources such as data analyst, software engineer, providing scholarships and trainings abroad and removing data access barriers with open data application, reducing environmental uncertainties as much as possible, establishing a national data storage center in terms of information security benefits, developing national software and algorithms, developing a national strategy document and establishing a common platform is recommended.
