Abstract (EN)

In this research, the effect of the mediation skills training programme with the perspective presented by Cognitive Behavioural Approach and the concurrent psychodrama exercises on the levels of empathic approach, problem-solving, active listening and communication skills of the mediators were be questioned. The research was conducted in 2019 with a volunteer group of 22 mediators in İzmir. In the research, an experimental design with pre- and post-test control group was used. 11 participants were assigned to the experimental group and 11 participants to the control group. Research data were obtained through quantitative and qualitative methods. The dependent variable of the research is empathic approach, problem-solving, active listening and communication skills (micro skills) which are included in mediation activity. Empathic Skills Scale, Interpersonal Problem Solving Inventory, Active Listening Skills Scale and Communication Skills Scale were applied to the participants in the experimental and control groups. The scales were presented to the participants in the pre- and post-test. Qualitative data of the study were obtained from face-to-face interviews with each of the experimental group participants only one week after the completion of the training. According to the findings of the research, although there was an increase in the empathic skills scores of the experimental group, this increase was not statistically significant. There was a significant decrease in the "Negative Approach to the Problems" scores of the experimental group compared to the control group. Constructive Problem Solving scores of the experimental group increased statistically compared to the control group. Self-Confidence and Lack of Self-Confidence scores did not differ in both experimental and control groups. While there was no difference in Lack of Responsibility scores between the groups before the application, the scores of the experimental group decreased significantly after the application. The application exercises did not have any effect on the Persistent-Perseverant Approach scores. Although there was no significant difference between the groups in terms of Active Listening Skills before the application exercises, the scores of experimental group increased significantly after the exercises. And the communication skills scores of the experimental group increased significantly after the application compared to the control group. According to the qualitative findings of the research, the majority of the participants in the experimental group were satisfied with the Psychodrama Group Exercises, which were implemented concurrently with the Mediation Skills Training Programme enriched with the Cognitive Behavioural Approach, that they were particularly pleased with the development of new and different subjects for themselves and that the application exercises should be provided in mediation certificate trainings and renewal trainings as well. They also stated that they have been identifying their own automatic thoughts and understanding their feelings better since the application. According to these results, it can be stated that Psychodrama Group Exercises carried out concurrently with the Mediation Skills Training Programme which is enriched with Cognitive Behavioural Approach are beneficial for mediation skills.
