Özet (EN)

Language, with its rich array of concrete and abstract dimensions, serves as the central focus of linguistic studies. Efforts to explain linguistic data through various linguistic fields aim to uncover the components of the language system and their functioning. Specifically, this study examines the phenomenon of ellipsis in language from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. Since ellipsis has often been addressed syntactically and grammatically, the semantic dimension of the topic has been overshadowed, leading to explanations of ellipsis through established and repetitive rules. This study, therefore, evaluates ellipsis semantically by linking it with cognitive linguistic elements. The issue of ellipsis was associated with conceptualization, metaphor, metonymy; it was explained how the images of person, time and place formed according to people's perception can be associated with ellipsis in terms of language use, and the explanation of the cognitive ellipsis was tried to be made by considering the essence and intensive structure of the words stereotyped among the speakers of the same language together with the conceptualization situation. These explanations were made according to the assumptions made in cultural and cognitive terms, the semantic fields identified and the context provided. The study concludes, based on findings and analyses within the context of the Tunyukuk inscription, that ellipsis at the mental level of language can be regarded as cognitive ellipsis. It suggests that the reason for this phenomenon may lie in the rhetorical and aesthetic nature of the language.
