Optimizing of exterior wall insulation thickness of buildings with energy and exergy analysis method

Abstract (EN)

In this thesis the optimum insulation thickness for the coat of the existing buildings in four different cities was calculated. In this calculation with considering the winter months the heating load and the average degree-day valuation between the years 2008-2014 were used. Natural gas, coal, fuel-oil and electricity were compared as types of heating, and XPS, EPS and rockwool were compared as heat insulation materials. Costs of insulation and fuel were accumulated on a graphic depending on heat insulation thickness, and emerged a polynomial, that shows the optimum heat insulation thickness, which has an only minimum point. The energy analysis was made with the help of combustion of fuels in the parameters of fuel cost, and the exergy analysis was made with the help of the heat loss of the optimum insulated and non-insulated wall and the surface of the wall layer. As a result of these calculations, it is determined according to the insulation materials, fuel type and climatic region that, the optimum insulation thicknesses is 5-15 cm in İzmir, 7-19 in İstanbul, 8-22 cm in Ankara and 12-31 cm in Erzurum.
