Özet (EN)

The most important thing to sustain democracy in Turkish political life has been the existence of political parties. On September 9, 1923 before the promulgation of the Republic of Turkey Mustafa Kemal set up the People's Party has demonstrated the importance it attaches to the democratic movement. Although another party could not exist for a while after the establishment of the People's Party, the establishment of the first opposition party, the Progressive Republican Party, on 17 November 1924, was a novelty for democracy. However, as a result of the policies it followed, it became a party where anti-republican refugees took shelter. During the Sheikh Said Revolt, some party leaders were closed in 1925 on the grounds of establishing close relations with those who participated in the uprising and providing material and moral support against the Republic regime. The Free Republican Party, founded on 12 August 1930, did not want to give confusion by declaring that it was not against the Republic and secularism in its establishment. However, the political situation in the country again caused the opponents of the Republic to take part in party organizations and prevented the adoption of democracy and multi-party life. With the closure of the SCF as a result of anti-Republican reactions, multi-party life trials have been fruitless. A single party period was experienced in 1946, and the transition to multi-party life began to yield with the establishment of the Democratic Party and its participation in the 1946 elections. After the foundation of the Democratic Party, the White Revolution which was named as the 1950 election as a result of the activities and policies it pursued, became the owner of the power and created innovations in the country in political, social and economic life. In domestic politics and foreign policy in the policy of the acquisition it has provided an important place in the history of the Republic of Turkey. With the support of the people, it experienced its brightest period in the 1954 elections, and after 1957 this situation started to lose power by reversing. The administration that it applied caused the opposition to get stronger by causing criticism, and the strengthened opposition carried out the 1960 coup with the support of the army. It has opened a new era with the 1960 military coup in Turkey. Democracy was disrupted for 17 months after the 27 May 1960 coup that took place, and the National Unity Committee ruled the country until the 1961 election. Created a new constitution and elections was established the first coalition government in Turkey.
