"Zoomorphism" as a cartoon character design method

Since the beginning of the 20th century with the emergence of cartoons, animated films and cartoons have managed to become one of the main fields of study in film production processes by taking an important position in media such as modern cinema, television, advertising and game design. Character design, which is one of the most important sectors among the fields of study, is handled in a simple and linear way, but over time, it is transformed into original characters by creatively combining elements such as form, shape, colour, silhouette, costume and accessories, and in this process, various personality traits are given to the characters. While individuals who read, watch and listen to the characters are in an effort to establish an emotional connection with these characters, the characters shaped by creativity are separated according to their basic styles and reveal basic phenomena such as Anthropomorphism, Metamorphism and Zoomorphism. At this point, Zoomorphism, as a design approach in which people and objects are equipped with animal characteristics, adds meaning and depth to character design by enabling emotional interaction with the audience through symbolic and aesthetic reflection of the qualities of the characters. The aim of this study is to analyse the formation of zoomorphic characters developed in the character design process by examining the concept of zoomorphism in depth and to evaluate the features and other qualities attributed to these characters from the perspective of zoomorphism. On the basis of the conceptual framework of the research, the literature review model based on a comprehensive literature review is effectively used.
