Abstract (EN)

The function of documentaries as course gadgets is mainly based on two reasons. First, documentary cinema itself carries its own technical and specific principals as a branch of cinema. The second reason is; documentaries are audio-visual material, it contains information that supports education, it exhibits cultural, social even universal values and attitudes that make individuals socialized. This study is conducted to study the qualities of documentary films as a visual material, its contribution to education and to socialization of individuals.In this respect, the concepts of education, educational technology, art, the education of art is defined. Then the art of cinema and its visual elements and technical characteristics of documentary films are explained. Next, the birth of documentary films, its definition and its principals are investigated. Finally, the function of documentary movies as educational material is investigated and a documentary film is examined in terms of formal, educational and its unique qualities to set an example.
