The relationship between self disclosure and self acceptance of high school students

Abstract (EN)
In this study, the relation between the sexes, ages, numbers of brothers and sisters, sequences of births, education levels of mothers and fathers, academic success levels of high school students and their self acceptance and self disclosure levels were researched. In order to measure the self acceptance level, one of the dependent variables of research, "Self Acceptance Inventory", developed by Kılıçlı (1981), for measuring the self disclosure level, one of the dependent variables, "Self Disclosure Inventory", developed by Selçuk (1988) were used. The data related to independent variables were gathered through the "Personal Data Forms." This study has been realized on 309 students chosen at random, who are educated in the preparatory, first, second and third classes of Atakent Anatolian High School, Karşıyaka High School, Gümüşpala High School in Karşıyaka County of Izmir Province. + test and variance analysis have been applied during the test of the subjects of the research. The findings of the research may be summarized as follows: 1. It was found out that generally sex has not an important effect on the self acceptance level. 2. The sex doesn't cause an important difference on the self disclosure level. The total self disclosure levels of female students have been found out higher than the male students. The self disclosure levels of female students about school, enjoinment and interests are higher than the male students. It was also found out that the sex doesn't cause any important differences on the self disclosure levels about the ideas and views, sexuality, family and personal matters. The self disclosure levels of the female students to the mothers, close friends -of the same and opposite sexes are higher than the male students. Also it was found out that the sex doesn't cause any and 1 7 year-old ones. 4. It was found out that the age causes an important difference on the self disclosure level. The total disclosure levels of 16-year-old students have been found higher than the 17 and 15 year-old students. The disclosure levels on ideas and views of 16 year-old students are higher compared to the students who are 17 and 15 years old. The age doesn't cause any important differences on the self disclosure levels dealing with the school, family, sexuality, personality, pleasure and interests. The disclosure levels of 16 year-old students to father and close friend of opposite sex are higher compared to 15 and 17 year-old students. The age doesn't cause any important differences on the self disclosure levels to mother, close friend of the same sex, teacher and consultant. 5. Number of the brothers/sisters cause an important difference on the self acceptance level. The self acceptance levels of the students who have 1-3 brothers/sisters have been found out higher compared to the students who doesn't have any or have 4 and more brothers/sisters. 6. Number of the brothers/sisters causes an important difference on the self disclosure level. The total self disclosure level of the single child student has been found out higher compared to the students who have 1 -3 or 4 and more brothers/sisters. About ideas and views, school, family, sexuality, personality, pleasure and interests, the self disclosure level of the single child student has been found out higher compared to the students who have 1-3 or 4 and more brothers/sisters. To mother, father and close. friends of the same sex, the self disclosure level of the single child student is higher compared to the students who have 1-3 or 4 and more brothers/sisters. It was also found out that the number of the brothers/sisters causes an important difference on the self disclosure level to close friend of the opposite sex, teacher and consultant. 7. It was determined that the sequence of birth doesn't have an important difference on the self acceptance level. 8. The sequence of birth doesn't cause an important difference on total self disclosure, self disclosure on specific subjects and self disclosure to the certain persons. 9. It was found out that the education level of mother causes an important difference on the self acceptance level. As the education level of mother gets higher, the self acceptance level gets higher as well. 10. It was determined that the education level of mother causes an important difference on the self disclosure level. As the education level of mother gets higher, the total self disclosure level also gets higher. Also as the education level of mother gets higher, the self disclosure level about ideas and views, school, family, sexuality, personality, pleasure and interests gets higher. It was found out that the self disclosure level to mother, father, close friend of the same and opposite sex, teacher and consultant gets higher as the education level of mother gets higher. 1 1. It was determined that the education level of father causes an important difference on the self acceptance level. As the education level of father gets higher, the self acceptance level doesn't get higher. 12. The education level of father causes an important difference on the self disclosure level. As the education level of father gets higher, the total self disclosure level becomes higher too. The self disclosure level on ideas and views, school, family, sexuality, personality, pleasure and interests becomes higher as the education level of father gets higher. It was found out that as the education level, of father gets higher, the self disclosure level to mother, father, close friend of opposite sex, teacher and consultant gets higher as well. It was determined that the education level of father doesn't higher, the self acceptance level gets higher as well. 14. It is determined that the academic success level has an important effect on self disclosure level. The total self disclosure level gets higher as the academic success gets higher. It was found out that as the success level gets higher, also the self disclosure about ideas and views, school, family, sexuality, personality, pleasure and interests gets higher too. As the success level gets higher, the self disclosure level to mother, father, close friend of same and opposite sex, teacher and consultant gets higher as well. 15. It was found out that if the self acceptance of the students is high, the total self disclosure level is high too. If the self acceptance level of the student is high, also the disclosure level on ideas and views, school, family, sexuality, personality, pleasure and interests gets higher as well. As the self acceptance level of the student becomes higher, the self disclosure level to mother, father, close friend from the same and opposite sex, teacher and consultant becomes higher too.
