Özet (EN)

Study Objective: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The aim of the study was to determine the variables that predicted the alienation in nurses. Methodology: The study population included 327 nurses working at Celal Bayar University's Hafsa Sultan Hospital (n=327). The sample of the study included 268 nurses who agreed to participate in the study on a voluntary basis (n=268). The study data were collected using Personal Information Form for Nurses and Alienation at Work among Nurses Scale. The study data were analyzed using SPSS version 15.00 statistical analysis program. The fitness of the Alienation at Work among Nurses Scale for the normal distribution was assessed using Kolmogorov–Smirnov test. The distribution of the nurses' introductory characteristics was tested using frequency distribution (numbers and percentages. The nurses' alienation levels and subdimension mean scores were assessed using means and standard deviation. The comparison of the nurses' alienation levels and introductory characteristics was made using independent samples t test and one-way analysis of variance, Kruskal–Wallis test, and least significant difference post-hoc test. The authors tested the internal consistency of the scale using Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Findings: The mean age of the participant nurses was 31.12±5.55. Of the participants, 55.2% had undergraduate degrees, 61.6% worked as service nurses, and 78% decided to become a nurse by themselves. The total mean score of alienation at work was 75.27±10.33, which was a lower–moderate level. The study found that the nurses who felt alienated from their work more were those who were single, medical vocational high school graduates, had associate's degrees, had a shorter length of service, did not work as a nurse manager, woked at operation rooms and intensive care unit, provided out-of nursing and support services, were not members of any associations, and did not follow professional publications. Result: The variables that had the greatest influence on the scores on Alienation at Work Scale were marital status, position at work, being a member of any association, and following the professional publications.
