Organizational climate differences among ISO 9001:2000 certified and non-certified departments of higher education institutions: The case of Dokuz Eylül University

It is evident that all the efforts to be certified by ISO 9001:2000 quality management system in an organization lead it to a better condition in terms of improved quality setting, profit maximization, increased productivity and market share. Quality development attempts not only improves in-house communication and job satisfaction of employees, but also helps establishing good management mechanisms and eventually creates satisfied customers.Many firms today aim to enhance the organizational climate. A better organizational climate increases organizational outcomes such as employee satisfaction, service quality, communication, organizational commitment while reducing the intention to leave job and organizational deviance. To create all of those are related with the managers of the organization. If the managers have leadership specifications, they form a good climate in the organization.The aim of this study is to analyze the relationship between organizational climate and ISO 9001:2000 quality management system. Additionally, set of relationships among ISO 9001:2000 quality management certification, leadership, organizational commitment, intention to leave job and organizational deviance are also analyzed.Results of the study reveal a significant relationship between ISO 9001:2000 certification and organizational climate, but it seems to be insufficient to create a better organizational climate. However, it?s found that, organizational leadership is the strongest factor in creating a well-established organizational climate.Key Words: ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management System, Organizational Climate, Leadership, Organizational Commitment, Intention to Leave Job, Organizational Deviance
