Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the glycemic regulation, lipid profile, diabetic complications, comorbid disease and well-being and treatment satisfaction of type 2 diabetic patients treated in primary care using WBQ-22 (Well-Being Questionnaire-22) and Diabet Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire (DTSQ).Patients and Methods: We enrolled 112 adult patients with type 2 diabetes for at least six months who were treated in Cukurova University Faculty of Medicine Yalim Erez Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic in March 2007-September 2007. All patients gave written consent. All patients? blood pressure, ECG, fasting and postprandial blood glucose, HbA1C, total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, triglyceride, urea, creatinine, microalbuminuria investigations were performed. Duration of diabetes, treatment drugs, diabetes education and comorbid disease and their treatment were recorded. They were given WBQ-22 and DTSQ.Results: Of patients, 36 (32,1%) had HbA1c at normal range (?7,0). Of patients, 36 (32,1%) had LDL-K at normal range (?100 mg/dl) and 76 (%67,9) high range. There was significant relationship between anxiety score of WBQ?22 and HbA1c levels (p=0.05), between all (except anxiety) scores and complications (depression and positive well-being p=0,003, energy p=0,04 and general well_being p=0,02 ), DTSQ total score and HbAıc levels (p=0,001), DTSQ total score and complications (p=0,001).Conclusion: Diabetes has negative impact of the quality of life (QoL) of patients and causes psychosocial distress. Even the medical treatment alone has positive effect on the QoL. All type 2 diabetic patients should be evaluated for well-being and treatment satisfaction and should be supported. As diabetic patients have high prevalence for depression and anxiety they should be treated if required. Thus the negative effect of these conditions on the metabolic control may be decreased. Keywords: Type 2 diabetes mellitus, glycemic regulation, WBQ-22, DTSQ
