Effects of bisphenol A and tetrabromobisphenol a on the bread and durum wheat varieties

Abstract (EN)

In the present study, effects of BPA and TBBPA on seed germination of bread wheat variety Sagittario and durum wheat variety Zenit and some biochemical changes in their seedling roots and shoots were determined. The seed germination did not significantly change in 10 mg/L BPA and TBBPA applicatios. However, seed germinations were significantly inhibited by 50 mg/L BPA and TBBPA concentration of both variesties, exception of 50 mg/L BPA in Zenit. Similarly, root and shoot developments were adversely affected by high concentrations of BPA and TBBPA. BPA and TBBPA-induced oxidative stress in roots and shoots demonstrating by H2O2 formation was also evaluated quantitatively with malondialdehyde and non-protein SH groups. Toxic effects of BPA and TBBPA on the roots were histochemically determined as well. Wheat varieties have the capacity to tolerate the oxidative stress at 10 mg/L concentrations. Concentration-dependant decreases in protein contents of roots and shoots were determined. Enhancements in H2O2 level and lipid peroxidation in roots and shoots were assumed to be resulted from provoked oxidative stress.
