A Qadri Sheikh in Bitlis: Biography of Sheikh Safiyuddin Geylani and his understanding of Islamic sufism

Sheikh Safiyuddin Effendi was born in 1934 in Nizin(Yenibağ) Village of Mutki district of Bitlis.The son of Sheikh Muhammed Effendi who was coming from Kadiri genealogy. With the ancient madrasa tradition, first of all , he started his training with Molla Ahmet Hizani who was the student of Sheikh Fethullah Verkanisi, then he took lessons from many scholars, especially his father. Sheikh Safiyuddin'in, who turned to sufistic life after receiving diploma , started his activities of showing the true path in the city of Bitlis and Istanbul, and addressed a wide area. Besides his substantiality in Arabic ,Ottoman Turkish , Persian ,and Kurdish languages which Safiyuddin Effendi used in his works about Sufism and Kadiri Genealogy, his poetry is also remarkable.We chose the works named ed-Dürret'ün-nefîsetü'l-merdiyye fî sülaleti'l-kadiriyyeti'l-haseniyye, vasiyyetü's-safiyye fî'l-işaretî'l-akli'l-müfîd ve Mecmu'l-efkar ve kuyudu'l-eşya ,as a source , in which Safiyuddin Effendi wrote out his life and Sufism ,and we also tried to provide information about Kadiri Islamic Monastries and the sheikhs in Bitlis and its surroundings.
