Biyoloji öğretmen eğitimcilerinin yeterliklerinin tanımlanmasına doğru: Bir delphi çalışması

The main aim of the study is to constitute competency framework of biology teacher educators by identifying needed competencies and competency indicators. Delphi method was preferred because this method enables to synthesize consensus of opinion of experts. There are some critics towards Delphi Method, to increase the validity and reliability of the study Delphi method was enriched by various additional stages under each Delphi Rounds. In this respect, the study differs from classical Delphi method. In the study, Delphi Method was applied in four main rounds. The aim of the Delphi 1st Round was to gather the opinions of experts on biology teacher educators' competencies. Therefore, data were gathered from 4 experienced biology teacher educators and a group of expert on teacher educators' competencies. In Delphi 2nd and 3rd Rounds biology teacher educators, biology education graduate students and biology teachers were participated to evaluate the need of identified competencies and competency indicators by biology teacher educators. In Delphi 4th Round the items which could not be reached consensus were asked to the participants in the Delphi 1st Round. At the end of the Delphi 4th Round, defined competency areas were Biology Education, Educating and Developing Biology Teachers, Educating Biology Teacher Educators, Positive Attitudes and Values for Biology Education, and Supporting Biology Education in Society. 29 competencies and 178 competence indicators were defined under the competency area. The study provides a framework for the professional development of biology teacher educators and development of biology education programs at undergraduate and graduate levels.
