Evaluation of family planning services at Bolu Dörtdivan District

The aim of this cross-dsectional study was to evaluate family planning services at Dörtdivan County of Bolu City and to research if family planning risk assessment of women was consistent according to questionnaires of the study and the Charts of Observation of 15-49 Years Old Women.The population of the study was total 15-49 years old 1359 women of Dörtdivan County. According to systematic sampling total 205 15-49 years old women, 75 women from Urban and 130 women from rural areas was included to the study. Questionnaire included 45 questions about family planning applied with face to face interview to women.The status of family planning method usage was; women using efficacious methods were 109 (53.2%), in efficacious methods 39 (19.0%) and no family planning method was 57 (27.8%). The methods were; condom 46 (28.2%), Intra Uterine Device 26(16.0%) and Pills 26 (16.0%) women. Causes of choosing methods were; safety 72 (66.1%), slight adverse affects 18 (16.5%), easily reached and cheap 1(0,9%) woman. To begin to use a family planning method 56(50.9%) women got help from Primary Health Center and 79 (73.8%) women get methods from Primary Health Center. Risk assessment according to questionnaires and Charts of Observation of 15-49 Years Old Women was same at 146 (86.9%) women (Kappa=0.76, p<0.001).The prevalence of family planning usage was just about the same as 2008 Turkey Population and Health Survey. More than half of women made decision to begin to use a family planning method at Primary Health center and get the method from there. These show that Dörtdivan Population Health Center give necessary attention family planning services. The most common method was condom and it shows that men took place beside family planning services and populations have confidence to health personnel. This situation has to be evaluated to reach better results.
