Özet (EN)

The main purpose of this experimental research is to compare the effects ofdiscovery learning strategy on the mathematics achievement at the 8th grade elementaryeducation.The subjects of the study consisted at 8th grade students from an elementaryschool in Yüreğir District of Adana. The units of ?features of the prism, areas andvolumes of the prism? had been chosen and taught to the experimental group by usingdiscovery learning strategy and to the control group by using whole class teachingtechnique. The study lasted for 8 weeks.The measurement instrument used in the study was mathematics achievementtest had been used as pretest and posttest to the experimental and control groups.In conclusion, it had been found that there were significiant differencesbetween achievements of the two groups. From this result, it can be said that discoverylearning strategy is more effected than the whole class teaching on mathematicsachievement.Key Words: Constructivism, Discovery Learning Strategy, MathematicsTeaching, Elementary Education, Academic Achievement.
