Abstract (EN)

This thesis presents a comprehensive study aimed at identifying, documenting, analyzing, and evaluating the educational buildings constructed in the city center, districts, and villages of Burdur from the early years of the Republic up to 1980. During the Republican era, extensive reforms were implemented across various sectors, paving the way for significant changes in the social fabric. Education, from the very foundation of the Republic, emerged as one of the most crucial areas of reform and policy focus. The profound emphasis placed on education is evident in the transformative initiatives undertaken during this period. The educational system, which represented the secular and modern ideology of the Republic, necessitated the construction of school buildings in accordance with contemporary architectural principles. Educational reform formed the core of the Republican revolutions, and architecture served as a vital tool in realizing these ideals. Through the construction of schools across the entire country—from urban centers to rural villages—the state aimed to elevate social and cultural standards and enhance economic capacity. School buildings functioned not only as spaces for learning but also as instruments of modernization and social transformation. Every school and every student became an agent for the internalization and dissemination of Republican values. In this context, each educational building examined in this study holds particular significance, serving as a historical and architectural document that reflects the sociopolitical and cultural landscape of its time. Educational structures provide critical insights into the broader social and ideological vision of the Republic. Accordingly, this research seeks to explore the architectural characteristics and contextual relevance of these structures, shedding light on the spatial manifestations of Republican educational policies.
