Evaluation of greenhouse cladding materials used in greenhouse cultivation in Bursa

In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the structural aspects of greenhouses in Bursa. For this purpose, greenhouses in the districts of Gürsu, Karacabey, Mustafakemalpaşa and İznik, where the greenhouse cultivation was extensively carried out, were examined. It is determined that all of the investigated greenhouses were dome or flat arch roofed with side wall, flat land located, plastic film covered greenhouses. Half of the investigated greenhouses were steel frame and the others were galvanized steel frame. UV + IR + EVA added and UV + IR added polyethylene films were used as covering materials in the 35.7%, 64.3% of the investigated greenhouses, respectively. According to the results of the survey conducted, it was determined that 85.7% of the greenhouse covering materials used in the region had an economic life of 36 months, 7.15% of 48 months and 7.15% of 60 months. The widths, lengths, sidewall heights and roof heights of the greenhouses were in the range of 7.0-12.5 m, 42.0-1 420.0 m, 2.3-5.0 m, and 1.4-2.1 m, respectively. Only 21.4% of the greenhouse operations have cold storage. 57.14% of the greenhouses are heated. Shading was performed in 64.3% of the greenhouses, and green covering and heat screen are used in 55.6% and 44.4% of the shaded greenhouses, respectively. The total greenhouses area owned by the surveyed enterprises ranged from 1.00 to 35.28 da with an average of 8.3 da. According to results of the survey conducted, it was determined that the most important problems of the farmers were related to the covering material (71.4%), followed by the concentration (7.14%) due to the covering material feature, ventilation and heating. Complaints about covering material have mostly been focused on the low resistance. According to the results obtained from this study, it is useful to develop the cladding materials with high strength and high light transmittance.
