Bursa Green Mosque tiles

Bursa Green Mosque, one of the early Ottoman Buildings, was constructed during 1419-1420 in Çelebi Mehmet period. Due to the early death of Çelebi Mehmet, Murat II completed the construction in 1424 by finishing the final adornment.Bursa Green Mosque is located in Yeşil district of Bursa on the slope looking to the plain; east to the city center; near by Set Başı Bridge, between the Çelebi Mehmet and Emir Sultan Streets. It is on the high point of main street having the Nort and North-West view of the city.Our Study contains six chapters and focused on Turkish traditional tile art in the sense of composition, design, material, form, techniques and style in details. Besides this the locations of tiles on the buildings have been examined in the sense of form, composition and techniques.Bursa Green Mosque is one of the characteristic pieces of art of early Ottoman tile art with its technical and adornment properties. It is also the first important construction with tiles in early Ottoman period. One color plain tile technique, tile mosaic technique, blue-white and colorful glazed tiles technique that is marked the period have been widely seen during this period. It is still controversial the emerging place and techniques of colorful glazed tiles. During the excavation in Iznik that is manufacturing center of Ottoman tiles, only some small pieces of colorful glazed tiles were found. It is thought that colorful glaze tiles that were used in buildings in Bursa, Edirne and Istanbul had been manufactured in temporary workshops close to these buildings.
