Abstract (EN)

Rectangular waveguide (RWG) filters are widely used in microwave technology, generally due to their low loss and high power handling capability. This study consists of two main parts: conventional RWG filter and RWG filter design using metaresonator. In the first part, bandpass RWG filters with symmetrical inductive iris structure in the desired degree and frequency region are analytically designed and MATLAB codes are given. As an example, a 5th order filter in the range of 4.5-4.8 GHz is analytically and numerically designed. In addition, the effect of filter degree, different iris thicknesses and different iris types on the filter performance is analysed. According to the results, the iris thickness has an effect on the frequency response of the filter, while the iris tips or the irises at the points where the irises meet the waveguide have no significant effect on the frequency response. The RWG filter designed with a bandwidth of 6.5% has a wider bandwidth than the filters designed at similar frequencies. According to analytical results, |S11| value is less than -20 dB in the range of 4.5-4.8 GHz, while |S21| value is approximately 0 dB in the same region. On the other hand, according to the simulation results obtained with the CST Studio Suite Microwave programme, the |S11| value is less than -18 dB in the same frequency band, while the |S21| value is approximately 0.09 dB in the same region. In the second part of the thesis, bandpass RWG filter was designed by using different metaresonators in three geometries as ring, rectangle and crescent, simulated with CST Studio Suite programme and measured using VNA in the frequency band range of 4- 8 GHz. According to the results obtained, the crescent geometry has the widest bandwidth while the rectangular geometry has the narrowest bandwidth.
