Abstract (EN)
Objective: The objective of the study is to determine the practices of the parents of children diagnosed with malaria in the Republic of Chad towards their children before they were admitted to the hospital. Method: The population of the study consisted of parents of children under the age of five who were diagnosed with malaria in Hopital la maire et de l'enfent and Hopital amitie tchad et chine hospitals in the Republic of Chad. The sample of the study consisted of 300 parents of children diagnosed with malaria between October 2020 and october 2021. The data of the study were collected with a structured questionnaire consisting of two parts prepared by the researchers. Data were evaluated with number/percentage distributions and chi-square test. Results: It was determined that 100.0% of the parents were mothers, 34.7% of the mothers were 30 years old and below, 32.0% had secondary education and 91.3% were not working. It was determined that 66.3% of the parents applied cold in the symptom of fever, 65.0% applied cold in the shivering, 66.3% covered them with a dry cloth in sweating, 46.0% gave paracetamol in their headache, 44.0% applied to the pharmacy in case of nausea, 70.3% of them applied to the pharmacy. It was determined that they applied to the hospital in case of vomiting, and 100% of them applied to the hospital in case of muscle pain and weakness. There was no statistically significant relationship between the age group, education level, family structure, income status of the mothers and their practice at home. Conclusion: The nurse is the healthcare team member who communicates most closely and frequently with the child and his/her family. Nurses who care for a child diagnosed with malaria and his family should inform parents about practices that have no evidence or have the potential to cause harm, and encourage approaches that support medical treatment.
