Abstract (EN)

This study analyzes the impact of space concept on art platforms. In today's art, artwork has detached from framework and its two-dimensional environment. It has moved to the space where viewers can experience it. Given this fact, not only space gained a different meaning but also phenomena such as art object, gallery space and viewer started to be questioned. Artists who have moved art to space created their own style by using various materials, have broken with traditional approach and have re-vealed the new. These materials have been the nature itself in some cases while fabric, metal and wood have been used in some other cases. Printing methods has become sig-nificant component for artists in this creation process. In this thesis, pieces that are ap-plied to space with print method will be analyzed starting from two-dimensional space perception in traditional printmaking. The thesis will also examine notion of space in the sense of contemporary art works. Notion of space's relationship with printmaking will be discussed in this study with three sections. In the first section, definitions and transformation of space notion will be addressed with respect to periods and philosophers. Theoretical base of space will be established. In the second section, changing structure of space notion that is the element of traditional printmaking will be emphasized. Starting from initial examples of history of printmaking, components such as space, depth, illusion and volume will be analyzed together with understanding of two-dimensional facet. In the last section, historical structure of association between artwork and space post 1960 period will be studied with respect to periods. Contributions of transformation process in art to today's relationship between printmaking and space, and printmaking's journey of exceeding its own level will be addressed with exemplary artworks. Artworks that are created specifically for space via printmaking will be tried to be defined through contemporary art.
