Editing of photo in contemporary experimental cinema

A review has been made on how photography art can be used with editing techniques in the field of experimental cinema in the master thesis titled ''Editing of Photo in Contemporary Experimental Cinema". It is aimed to carry out a study in this field and to combine photo art and experimental cinema in a common denominator due to the scarcity of studies on behalf of experimental cinema and the use of photography in cinema in our country. For this purpose, two experimental short films named "Seabird" and "I Saw Dead In My Dream" in which various photographs were used with different techniques were shot and a new use for photography art was tried to be created through these films. Another important element that allowed the films to be categorized experimentally with their shooting style and scenarios was the re-presentation of the photographs with editing techniques. In the study, first of all, the examples of the leading artists are given after examining the history of experimental cinema of different countries in order to better understand the experimental cinema. Then, within the scope of the use of photography in the art of cinema, photography-based filmmakers, photo-themed films and films shot with photo cameras were processed. In the last part, current visual effects techniques used in cinema are associated with photography and sample applications in experimental films produced within the scope of the thesis are shown. In the Seabird movie, in a single episode, many photographs were edited in a short time with the rhythmic editing technique and a different narrative language was created and the effect of the photographs on the film was increased. In ''I Saw Dead In My Dream'', movie scenes were tried to be created by applying various visual effects techniques on the photo and making the photos moving. Films are analyzed in terms of technic, content and aesthetics and that shows us that thanks to editing and visual effects photos can be presented in a new form and it can be seen that it can be used in films.
