Abstract (EN)
In this research, which started on the existence of scary elements in works of art, examinations on the effects of art in certain periods of history and their reflections on artists were included. Afterwards, a research adventure started on beings that we encounter in popular culture. In the first title, Francisco Goya, where we deal with the fear of war and his own subconscious, and other scary elements such as Hell and Demon are discussed in sub-headings. Along with the second title, contemporary art has been discussed as after 1968. The relationship between clowns, zombies and other bodies, which we come across with contemporary art, with horror has been defined. These elements were influenced by the Uncanny concepts of 19th century thinkers Sigmund Freud and Ernest Jentsch and the Uncanny concepts before him, and developed through Masahiro Mori's theory of "Uncanny Valley" in 1970 in Contemporary Art and in our work as content. In the equation in the graph in which Mori explains the Uncanny Valley theory, terrible objects of popular culture are encountered. In the second title of our study, frightening beings have been analyzed by establishing relationships with contemporary artworks. Since the content of my research also affected my own workshops, the frightening objects of popular culture were integrated with technology belonging to popular culture, and the weight of my work was given to digital paintings or kinetic sculptures. In this research, Mori's Uncanny Valley was taken as a basis and answers were found on how to deal with Mori's concept and scary objects in art. Keywords: Contemporary Art, Horror, Scary
