Baby figures at comtemporary of ceramic art

ABSTRACT What human is observed the most after birth was his own body and people around him. This situation caused what he know best. Which is the abstract concepts that he had difficulty in understanding ended up shaping them in human form. In this process until the modern era, human figure has reached to the present day by increasing its signifiancy. This human figure prtrayalys by keeping up with the developing age has changed by some factors like cultural structure of societies and living conditions and continued its development. The figures hade been made by using bone or ivory was also produced as ceramic due to the easy shaping of the soil. The oldest known human figure is a pregnant female figure. This process which has started with pregnancy and which was a subject to the painters and sculptors had been seen as continuity of lineage and allowed to increase value given to the children. By the 19th century this value increasing with the renaissance. This is the one of the most important phenomenon brought by modern art. This study not only examined the concept of the association of innocence and baby figure, but also mentioned the complex emotions in subconscious mind derived by the term of innocence and its effects on artists.This thesis consists of three chapters. In the first chapter, there is an introduction of child-baby figures in art history with a brief description of the first human figure, and the place of the baby figures in the art of painting and sculpture. Since the subject of baby figures is a wide concept in art, painting and sculpture are selected field to be focused. In the second part, the artists whose works in style of the baby figures and their works are mentioned.
