Abstract (EN)

One of the most important reform movements in the Ottoman westernisation period is in the field of art. This process began with the return of the soldier painters and the young painters who give up their education owing to the WWI. The aim of the establishment of Şişli Atelier was the production of paintings whose theme were national struggle. The paintings that the painters of 1914 Generation created with the love of homeland and with the spirit of national struggle became documents of the period. The painters who have made efforts for the development of Turkish painting have made a positive contribution to the development of Turkish painting with their experience they obtained in abroad. These young painters are among the first generation artists of the Republic. In this study, the paintings with the theme of national struggle in the history of contemporary Turkish painting have been researched and the painters' lives and their pioneering artistic style have been scrutinized.
