Abstract (EN)

The 19th century is considered to be one of the golden ages of modern Greek literature and storytelling has an important place in this period. This thesis focuses on the storytelling tradition of modern Greek literature and tries to analyse the lives and works of five important writers based on Nurullah Çetin's work titled Novel Analysis Method. The authors discussed stand out not only for their literary talents, but also for their reflection of the socio-political and cultural dynamics of the period in which they lived. The focus of this study is on Panagiotis Soutsos, Aleksandros Rizos Rangavis, Dimitrios Vikelas, Emmanouil Roidis and Angelos Vlahos and the selected stories of these five writers are analyzed in terms of time, place and person. The stories of these writers present to the reader not only with the creativity of individual artists, but also with a broad panorama of 19th century Greek society. The daily life, hopes, disappointments and social structures of the Greek people are shaped in these works with the subtle touches of time, place and characters. The aim of this study is to fill the gap in the literature as there is no previous study in this field in Turkey. While studies on modern Greek literature in Turkey have generally focused on the classical period, the richness of modern Greek literature in the field of storytelling has been ignored. This thesis aims to fill this gap and reveal the modern face of 19th century Greek literature, especially its contributions to storytelling. In the process of analysis, the elements of time, place and person in the stories have been meticulously focused on. How these elements come together, how they shape the world presented to the reader and what themes the authors address through these elements were examined in depth. These analyses illuminate not only the literary structures but also the social and cultural criticisms of the authors.
