Soul-body relationship and life after death in the context of contemporary philosophy of mind

The nature of the mind, consciousness, free will, the soul-body relationship, and life after death are issues that are at the center not only of philosophical thought or religious beliefs but also of individuals' daily lives. In this study, the soul/mind and body relationship, which directly affects philosophical and religious life as well as individual and social life, will be evaluated and addressed in the context of contemporary philosophy of mind. The views of different religious and philosophical traditions on what will happen to the soul or mind in the afterlife will also be included comparatively. In recent years, developments in neurocognitive or neurological fields have enabled the issues and problems of contemporary philosophy of mind to be approached from different perspectives. Issues such as the nature and source of the soul, body, consciousness and personal identity, which were traditionally addressed and defined, have begun to be defined and interpreted in different ways in the light of data from disciplines such as neurology, neurophysiology, neuropsychology and neurocognition; such as the use of the concept of mind instead of the concept of soul. The study consists of two parts. In the first part, the analysis of the basic concepts related to the subject will be included. What is meant by each concept and how each concept is defined will be explained. Brief information will be given about the nature, subject and purpose of different disciplines that contribute to a better understanding of the soul-body and mind. In the second stage, the views of different philosophers from Islamic and Western thought on the soul-body-mind and life after death throughout the historical process will be discussed.
