Arabic, which is one of the Sâmi languages, is the fourth most widely used language in the world. Languages can grow and develop like living organisms. There are periods of critical importance in the development of each language operating in a specific process. This critical period for Arabic language in particular is considered to be the pre-Islamic period, which is called the period of Jahiliyyah. At this point, the period of Jahiliyyah is of great importance for the Arabic language. The most striking element regarding language in the period of Jahiliyyah is undoubtedly poetry. Thus, poetry and poets constitute the subjects that should be examined most in Arabic language and literature. Al-Efveh al-Evdî, one of the poets of the Jahiliyyah period, is one of the poets who should be examined due to the period he lived and his position at his time. He is a famous poet known for being the master of al-Efveh people, warrior, and an erudite. The social and literary personality which he possessed emphasizes the importance of learning his life. We will evaluate the poet al-Efveh's divan along with his literary and social personality in our study. While analyzing his literary personality through artistic aspects of poems in his divan under categories such as simile, metaphor, allegory, contrast, and terdid, we will examine his social personality by evaluating his poems with themes like fakhr boast, dirge, satire, and wisdom.
