Investigation of the relationship between social appearance concern and psychological well-being in working and non-working women

The aim of the research is to examine the difference between social appearance concern and psychological well-being in working and non-working women. In addition, the significance of the relationship between social anxiety and psychological well-being has been examined. For this purpose, 144 women (70 working and 74 non-working) who were living in Şehitkâmil district of Gaziantep participated in the research. Socio-Demographic Information Form, Psychological Well-Being Scale and Social Appearance Concern Scale were used to collect the data. Chi-square test, Independent samples T-test, ANOVA, Pearson Correlation Analysis were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the research, it was determined that the psychological wellbeing levels of the women do not differ according to the marital status, education level and place while differ according to age, working status and income situation. In consequence of the research, it was determined that the levels of social appearance concern of the women do not differ according to the age, income status and place while differ according to marital status, education status and working status. As a result of the research, it was found that there is a negative significant relation between psychological well-being and social appearance concern.
