Özet (EN)
The first use of the concept of nostalgia in history can be seen in the medical thesis of a doctor named Johannes Hofer in 1688. The concept is used to describe a disease when it first appears. The word nostalgia is the neo-Latin translation of Heimweh, a Swiss German word despite the Latin sound in the ears. The concept of nostalgia, which derives from the roots of Notos (home, return) and Algos (pain), means "homesickness". The cure of this disease, which defines the situations in which the soldiers away from home fall on the bed with homesickness, is obvious: returning home. However, within a hundred years following the discovery of the disease, the concept goes beyond its spatial meaning and gains a temporal meaning. Sending sick soldiers back home is no longer a cure for sick soldiers because the missed home is no longer a spatial place, it is temporal. However, the nostalgia pandemic that spreads globally today is not means a longing for a past that has been experienced and known past, but the longing for an unexperienced past. Some scholars attribute this to the fact that in the post-Globalization period, people stopped believing in utopias, that is, better futures. Thus, dissatisfied people or communities imagine an improved past, not a better future. Against today, which represents uncertainty, insecurity, disorder and chaos; they resort to a regular, known, free of all problems. Individuals born in the period of globalization and post-globalization do this with nostalgia, which is based on indirect and collective experience, that we also call virtual nostalgia. Virtual nostalgia is a longing for a idealized past that has not been directly experienced but collectively experienced. One of the areas where the nostalgia epidemic is visible is music. It is seen that the past and the present are compared implicitly in the revival of the vinyl, especially in discussions on analog and digital opposition. Vinyl records its own personal history with the damage it receives as well as it can record musical data. In this context, the vinyl is often claimed to have a personal memory. Vinyl Cafes, on the other hand, have appeared much more recently, and are places that use old items and especially vinyls in almost every corner of the space to create virtual nostalgia. Thus, people who are dissatisfied with the world and life they live in today construct retrospectively. In other words, they envision a better / idealized past. In this envision, the "ancient" music of the past creates a strong opposition to music that has just emerged today and has not yet gained its legitimacy. While Vinyl medium is categorized as "natural" as an analog media, digital media is classified as "artificial" and declared "unwanted, bad" in the context of representing today. This thesis study will try to understand the phenomenon called the global nostalgia epidemic through the "70'ler Plak Kafe" example, which spatializes the past with the reminder feature of the items it uses as fragments.
