Bleaching of wall tiles body with addition of CaO

Ceramics industry produces various recipes using different combinations of clay and certain supplementary products(quartz, feldspar, calcite etc.) to be used for different purposes, and in doing so it has to consider certain phsyical criteria. One of these criteria is the color of the body. The clay used in the ceramics industry in Turkey includes iron oxides, which result in the actual body of the ceramic having a dark color. The cost of production increases with various techniques that may be applied on the body for bleaching. As a part of the researches conducted to find a relatively low cost solution for the bleaching of the body, experiments were done with adding calcium oxide in order to observe it's effects on the color and other physical attributes of the body, and the results presented as the subjects of this thesis.
