Abstract (EN)

The study area is located in the northern zone of the Eastern Pontide Orogenic Belt, around the Çatalağaç village of Doğankent district of Giresun province. The mineralization in the Giresun G41-b3 and G42-a4 sheets occurred within dacite, pyroclastic and limestone from the Upper Cretaceous Kızılkaya Formation. In the observations and determinations made in the galleries in the study area, banded structures consisting of epidote-garnet and accompanying pyrite minerals, as well as stockwork mineralizations were observed. Alteration types such as limonitization and hematitization, as well as chloritization, epidotization, and silicification, have been identified around the gallery. Based on ore microscope studies, the paragenesis of the mineralization consists of pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, magnetite and hematite. It was determined that mineralization occurred in two different phases at different temperatures, garnet and epidote minerals formed in a high-temperature environment before mineralization, and hematite, limonite, and calcite minerals formed after mineralization. The main textural types observed in the mineralization that develop in two different phases are replacement, separation, inclusion, and cataclastic. Evaluating the paragenesis-succession data and textural features obtained from ore microscopy studies and alteration types revealed that the Çatalağaç mineralization has similar characteristics to other mineralization types in the region. In addition, it was concluded that the mineralization is a hydrothermal type of deposit formed by the emplacement of hydrothermal melts formed by the Harşit Granitoid into dacit and pyroclastic rocks along faults and fractures.
