Usage and development of double bass in jazz music

The aims of this research are the usage of double bass in jazz music, the contributions of significant and well known double bass players of jazz to music throughout the jazz history, the physical and technical evolution of double bass according to increasing demands. In this study it was examined the straggle of double bass which started to devekop as a bass instrument in European classical music since 1500s, fixing its place and importance in classical music orchestras in the years of 1700, taking part in anew genre of music with jazz music in early 1900s. This research consists of four main parts. In the first part, the general development of double bass in its history, in the second part the contributions of theprominent double bass players in the periodic styles of jazz music, in the third part physical changes of double bass according to demands in jazz music, in the last part technologic developments to response high demand of double bass are examined.
