Ottoman State at the beginning of the 20th century according to the Czech press

The emergence of liberal movements in the 19th century began to challenge the centuries-old structure of the Ottoman State, and the Ottoman State faced internal political strife and external pressures. The early 20th century marked the final years of the Ottoman State and a period in which the ideological foundations of the modern Turkish Republic were laid. As a period of significant political, social and cultural transformations in Ottoman history, such as the reinstatement of the Ottoman constitution and the establishment of a more pluralistic political system, this period not only reshaped the internal dynamics of the Ottoman State, but also attracted international attention and scrutiny. Among the various mediums through which these transformations are perceived and interpreted globally, the press plays an important role in disseminating information, shaping public opinion and influencing diplomatic relations. Despite this role of the press, a review of the literature on this subject reveals that there is a limited number of studies on the reflection of the developments of the period in the international press. Therefore, this study examines the reflections of the early-20th-century events and developments in the Ottoman State in the Czech press. In this framework, this study aims to reveal which events attracted more importance and how they were perceived by the Czech press and public opinion during this period. The reflections of these significant developments and events in the Ottoman State in the Czech press constitute an important source for understanding the historical and social dynamics of the period. The Czech press's interest in and coverage of these developments in the Ottoman State provide a valuable perspective for understanding both the reflections of the modernization efforts of the Ottoman State in Europe and the internal dynamics and political pursuits of Czech society. The findings of this study show that the constitutional movements of the Ottoman State had important repercussions not only in domestic politics but also in the international arena. Thus, this study reveals that the reflections of the developments and modernization efforts of the Ottoman State during this period in the European press should be examined in a broader historical and sociopolitical context.
