Background: Various studies have been conducted and the results have been published investigating the prevalence, incidence and risk groups of bipolar disorder in the international area. Although, psychiatric epidemiology studies done in our country, bipolar disorder has not yet carried out an epidemiological study conducted in private. Requirementin in this area are attractive. Aim: Our study among university students in terms of research to determine requirements before the community is planned to conduct a study of the epidemiological characteristics. We research the incidence of bipolar disorder in young adults, aimed to determine the prevalence and risk groups. Our study made a preliminary survey is planned for the future epidemiological studies that are planned. Material and Methods: At this research were reached in 2757 people of all students studying in 1st class at the Celal Bayar University in all faculties and schools. The participants were applied sociodemographic data form and the HCL-32 applications form. The students who were scored abow 14 points from HCL-32 applications form and 5% of students fall below the score 14 were invited to the Celal Bayar University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry with face to face, while those who refused to come on the phone discussing SCID DSM with two mood module mood Disorders-IV diagnoses were investigated and bipolar disorder is considered in terms of the people that risk Celal Bayar University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry Department were invited to the meeting is provided in face to face with them. Results: The prevalence of bipolar disorder were found 1.40 at the 1st class students in the Celal Bayar University. Gender, the additional presence of psychiatric illness, psychiatric drug use presence, additional medical diseases presence of medical drug use presence, the presence of the use of non-alcohol substance, including the presence of the use of other materials excluding non-alcohol, first-degree relatives of bipolar disorder presence of bipolar in second-degree relatives the presence of disorder, the presence of psychiatric disorders in first-degree relatives and second degree relatives were assessed in the presence of psychiatric disorders. In the further analysises were significant the substance abuse, the medical drug use and gender frequency hopping bipolar disorder. Substance use was found the decisive factor as the independent contribution which is to distinguish the two groups bipolar disorder and the healthy ones. Conclusions: The difficulties in the field bipolar disorder diagnosis difficulties was limited in making this community-based study of prevalence, the risk groups and the identification of possible factors. Treatment of bipolar diagnosed late or missed diagnosis of the disorder leads to negative consequences in delaying. To prevent the by passing of bipolar disorder, and with real risks, there is a need for epidemiological assessment to ensure the identification of risk groups.
