Evaluation of form and meaning through facade features, case of Mahabad avenue

Façades, an important part of the urban plan, create an urban reflection and present the structural character of the city. Hence, they play an essential role in the creation of the identity of the city. Buildings built since 2008 on Mahabad Avenue, Diyarbakır are the new and improving façade of the city. The area that was created by fast parcelling and road building is facing rapid population growth due to the popularity of the buildings. Constructions are still active in the area to full fill this demand. To effectively present the opinions of the users on the modern buildings in the area the study analyses the façade elements according to user comments to evaluate them under adjective pairs and basic design principles. For this and similar studies, it is important to identify the factors the society asses to determine their preferences on the buildings. It is possible to evaluate preferences under many labels such as, liking of the façade, location, reflection of statues… Nowadays location and reflection of statues seem to be disconnected and more important from the liking of the façade. Hence, the influence of the reflection of statues on the design of the façades is becoming a problem for the design process and the identity of the city. As result suggestions are presented using the evaluations of the data to contribute to the design and evaluations of the future studies.
