Abstract (EN)

Human life has developed from past to present. From ancient times to the present day, living conditions and environmental conditions have changed and as these conditions have changed and developed, the materials used in line with human needs have also developed. Traditional materials used in buildings are not sufficient in terms of thermal insulation in buildings. Therefore, the need for innovative smart materials that can keep up with the changing climatic conditions and environmental conditions in buildings has arisen. From this point of view, it is assumed that energy consumption will be reduced and energy savings will be achieved with the use of transparent (glass) materials that will provide energy savings in terms of thermal insulation on facades and have suitable "u-values" for different climatic conditions. The aim of this thesis is to reveal the energy loss and annual heating energy requirement of the building in terms of thermal insulation by using transparent (glass) materials with different "u-values" on the facade of a building, and thus to determine the most favorable material in terms of energy consumption and energy saving. The study is important in terms of protecting the diminishing energy resources and producing and providing alternative energy resources with the right material selection in the building - construction sector, which accounts for the majority of energy consumption with global warming and climate change. Different types of transparent materials used in facades cannot adapt to every climate type, and material selection should be made according to certain parameters for correct and effective thermal insulation. The "u-values" are the most important factor in the selection of traditional and smart transparent (glass) materials examined in this thesis. It is thought that there is an important relationship between energy consumption, thermal insulation, thermal comfort and "u values" of the selected materials. Within the scope of the study, "u-values" were calculated in TS 825 calculation program by considering certain parameters in order to evaluate transparent (glass) materials in terms of thermal insulation. Sahra Royal Site located in Elazığ province, which is defined as the 3rd climate zone, was selected as the field study. The existing material used on the facade of the building was compared with the use of traditional and smart transparent materials.
