Surgery intensive care patients experience and satisfaction levels

The study was conducted as a descriptive cross-sectional study to determine the intensive care experience and satisfaction levels of patients hospitalized in the general surgery intensive care unit (GSICU). In the study carried out at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine GCYBU; 153 patients who were hospitalized in the surgical ICU, who met the research criteria and accepted to participate, were included. "Personal Information Form", "Intensive Care Experience Scale (YBDÖ)" and "Visual Analogue Patient Satisfaction Scale (VAHTS)" were used to collect data. In the evaluation of the data, descriptive statistics, categorical measurements were summarized as numbers and percentages, and continuous measurements were summarized as mean, standard deviation, and minimum-maximum. As a result of the research, it was seen that the mean age of the patients was 56.8±15.4 and 62.7% of them were male. In terms of educational status, it was determined that 45.8% of the patients were primary school graduates, 81.7% were married, 57.5% were not working. In the study, it was determined that there was no statistically significant difference between the mean scores of GAHTS and YBDÖ according to the gender, marital status, educational status, employment status and income status of the patients. It was determined that the mean score of the patients with no ICU experience was higher than those with ICU experience, and this difference was statistically significant (p<0.05). When the mean scores of the patients were examined, it was determined that the highest score was obtained from the item "satisfaction with care". As a result, the research showed that the intensive care experience of the patients hospitalized in the GSICU was positive (64.2±7.5) and their satisfaction level was above the average (6.8±3.4).
