Relationship between environmental behaviours and religiosity

One of the major problems in this day and age is undoubtedly environmental problems. Human beings play a major role in the emergence of problems. Religion is one of the factors that shapes people's thoughts, attitudes, and behaviors. Therefore, it is unthinkable not to include the religions that place human and nature's relations in a certain system in the studies conducted for the solution of environmental problems. This study aims to reveal the relationship between the environmental behaviors of Muslim individuals and their religiosity orientations in terms of various variables. The study consists of two parts. In the first part, theoretical and field research, the method and conceptual framework of the research, environment, environmental awareness, environmental problems and causes, definitions of religion and religiosity, various religious typologies, environment and religion relations are examined with documentation method. In the second part, findings are presented. In order to determine the relationship between religious orientation and environmental behaviors, a questionnaire consisting of "Environmental Behaviors Scale" and "Religious Orientation Scale" are applied to a sample of 378 individuals with different demographic characteristics. The findings indicate that intrinsic religiosity has a positive effect on "avoiding wastefulness"; and there is no significant relationship between extrinsic religiosity and environmental behaviours. We also found significant relationship positive relationships between environmental behaviors and some demographic variables.
