Investigation of stadiums structures constructed after 2000 in Marmara region according to environmental performance based design approaches

As the public started to realize the level of destruction caused by human beings on the environment in the 1960s, people started to take actions and seek solutions. This, new environmental and ecological awareness was moved up to the international platforms in the 1970s, resulting with the establishment of the World Environment and Development Commission by the United Nations (UN) in 1983. Economic welfare, environmental integrity and social equality constituted the basic parameters of sustainability in line with the sustainable development movement. In this context, many international declarations were made while the notion of sustainability still continues to develop. Today, however, "sustainable architecture" has been replaced by "performance-based design". The method of the research is assessment of the environmental performance of stadium structures by creating diagrams along with the netting, multi-velocity, icon on the city scale; urban re_cycling on the neighborhood scale; humanizing, re-urbanizing,topogragphyng, on the inner circle scale; re-programming and sun_effective use of the solar energy parameters on the structure scale based on the netting from the geographic information systems. Atatürk Olympic Stadium, Türk Telekom Arena, Vodafone Arena and Timsah Arena, the stadiums with a capacity over 25,000 and constructed after 2000 in the Marmara Region were researched through diagrams in the matrix system created by analyzing their relations with the environmental performance-based design parameters integrated with the Geographic Information System.
