The replacement of cement with the waste products which includes pozzolanic properties help to prevent air pollution and environmental pollution caused by emission of CO2 into the atmosphere during cement production. This is done by reducing the amount of cement production and producing more environmentally friendly concrete as it incorporates reusing the waste instead of leaving them to nature. In this study aimed to determine which of the applications of replacement of cement-based materials with cement by volume or weight is more effective on the strength and durability properties of concrete. Different percentages (both by volume and weight), presents a twenty five different concrete series were produced by replacing mineral additives such as metakaolin, silica fume, fly ash and blast furnace slag with cement. A detailed investigation were conducted to determine the differences in the strength properties of the produced concrete samples. The literature includes applications of replacing cement by volume with cementitious materials; however, a detailed investigation has not been conducted. As a result, the substitution of cementitious materials by weight and volume has been thoroughly investigated. Mineral additives' substitution by weight and volume in cement has been examined in detail, presenting researchers with the effects on concrete properties such as porosity, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, and microstructure analyses.
