ABSTRACTCLASS C KUTAHYA T LE DES GNS USED ON T LESAkba Uyanık, ZeynepBachelorship, Department of Traditional Turkish Hand-crafts/ArtsTez Danı manı: Prof. Tevhide ÖZBA IMayıs-2006In this search, Classical Kutahya Tile Designs Used in Tiles are assessed by doingliterature scanning about artificial tile which is one of our traditional arts, byobserving the classic Kutahyta tiles at the workshops using traditional Kutahya tiledesigns at their products, Kutahya Tile Museum and in the special collections.The tiles at Kutahya tile museum and the personal museums, the historicalconsructions decorated with Kutahya tiles, classic kutahya tiles in special collectionsand the products of the workshops using traditional Kutahya tile designs are the maincontents of this search. 12 works at the Kutahya tile museum, 20 works in thecollection of Rıfat Çini, 12 works in the collection of Suna and nan Kıraçassociation, 3 works in the collection of Yetik Çini, 15 classic Kutahya designs ofElhamra Çini and 7 tile designs of Azim Çini are the samples analized in this search.There is information about the drawings of 33 designs and the features of 69 tileswith their photos. This search is formed in five parts and 155 pages.At the end of the search1)108 workshops registered at Kutahya trade center were found, then one of themhas been shut down. It was fixated that three workshops -two of them are still active-were using classic Kutahya tile designs. It was also recognized that other workshopswere sometimes using these designs on demand.2)The plain scene of classic Kutahya designs beside attractive znik designs anddemands on tiles designed with znik designs are the main reasons of why theworkshops don?t prefer them.3)The most preferred Kutahya tile designs are the designs named as karanfil, yıldızgeçme, elhamra.4)Nowadays the copies of znik tile designs and new compositions based on thesecopies are used on tiles produced in Kutahya.It is given place to the suggestions manifested by the researcher due to the veritiesarising at the end of the search.
