Analysis of Claude Debussy Violin and Piano Sonata

French composer Claude Debussy became the pioneer of impressionism in music by revolutionizing his works with innovations. The effects of innovations in painting and literature in the 19th century played an important role in the formation of the composer's musical language. The most striking features of Debussy's works are breaking away from tradition, moving away from classical harmony and form structure and, keeping the color and timbre factor in the foreground without having formal concerns. "Violin and Piano Sonata" by C. Debussy written during the First World War, has an important place in the violin repertoire. The most important factor in the selection of the subject of this study is the fact that this piece, which is frequently performed in concerts and exam programs has not been took place in academic studies in Turkey. In the first part of the study, the life of the composer and the characteristics of the impressionist period, of which he was the pioneer, are given, impressionist painters and symbolist poets are explained and how the movements shape the musical identity of the composer is mentioned. In the second part, general information about Debussy's "Violin and Piano Sonata" is given and the work is structurally analyzed. In the third part, study suggestions were made for the violin techniques used in the work, which is the subject of the research.
