Children and philosophy

The effort to be human reveals new pursuits on behalf of the child. One of them is the idea of children and philosophy. Being human happens in a three-dimensional time, past, present and future. The first step of this movement starts with being a child. Since the relationship between children and philosophy is human-oriented, it is as forward as it is retrospective. The main purpose of this idea is to reveal the child's potential in a holistic sense. When we look at the activities carried out, it is seen that the historical, cultural and philosophical dimension of the child is ignored. However, the subject addressed by the thought of the child and philosophy is the child. For this reason, in order to establish a solid bridge between the child and philosophy, it is necessary to first understand and get to know the child correctly. The research has been on the necessity of a comprehensive study of the relationship between children and philosophy. In this context, literature review was carried out on the approaches and studies that emerged about child and philosophical thought. In our thesis, an answer to the question of what is the relationship between children and philosophy was sought. In this direction, it has been ensured that the approaches that source the idea of children and philosophy are examined and determined. In the study, first of all, what are the concepts of children, childhood, being human and philosophy were examined. Then, the concepts of language, thought and thinking were discussed in the focus of child and philosophical thought. Finally, the development of child and philosophical thought was discussed and the question of what philosophy is with children was examined. As a result, it has been determined that there are gaps in the field of application of child and philosophical thought that ignore the principle of relativity to the child. In this sense, the importance of structuring philosophy practices with children on a philosophical and academic basis is revealed.
