Abstract (EN)

Children learn how to behave in accordance with the laws while they are socializing during their development. In the process of socialization, children who have to face a number of social rules begin to learn the expectations of those around them. The environment of the child that is where he or she is grown, is effective on all areas of development. The structure of social, cultural and economic characteristics allow shaping the area of social-emotional development of the child and also contribute to the formation of social skills. Developed social skills help the child to communicate with the surroundings. According to the law of Social Sevices and Child Protection İnstitution with the number of 2828, the child who needs protection is a child whose personel safety, moral, physical and spiritual development is in danger. This cahil is described like these; the child without mother or father, without mother and father, his mother or/and his father is unknown, his mother/and his father abondened him, his mother or father neglects him and can not protect the child against prostitution, alcohol, drugs and narcotics and begging. The inportance of parent-child relationship in the development of social skills are vital. The lack of the above mentioned relationship on children in need of protection can have a negative impact on the development of skills in this area. The structure of child homes was developed considering the disadvantages of the orphanages.This study aims at measuring the contribution of child homes to the development of their social skills.Thus to show the differences between orphanages and child homes and the differences between children in need of protection and those who live with their family. In this study, the social skills of children in need of protection that live in orphanages is compared with the social skills of children living with the family. The sample group of the study consists of children living with their families in the provinces of Izmir and Denizli and children living in orphanages and child homes for the child who needs protection. In this study, personal inquiry form that includes demographic data about children and social skills evaluation scale were used. The data obtained through the research were assessed by the independent samples t-test, one way ANOVA, Kruskall Wallis H test, Mann Whitney U test ve test of within subject effects statistical analysis. As a result of analysis applied in this study of the sex, age, class, knowledge, organization, the reason taking under protection due to parent union status of pre-school education, a significant differentation between the scores of the variables were found in the children?s social skills. According to the institutions (orphaneges, family, child homes for children who need protection) that provide information claims that there are differences in social skills of children who live in these homes and children who live with their families as well as the children who live in orphanages and child homes for children in need.
