Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to adapt the Chidren's Inventory of Anger (ChIA), which was developed by Nelson and Finch (2000) to evaluate certain situations that cause danger in children aged between 8-11 and measure the impact of the way of expression of anger and the anger itself on personal relations, to Turkish and to test reliability and validity of the Turkish version. The study sample consisted of 502 students who study in 3rd and 4th grades of elementary school and 5th and 6th grades of secondary school in central districts of Hatay province. The sample of the study which was conducted to examine the criterion-related validity and reliability of the ChIA consisted of 182 students who study in the central districts of Hatay province and completed the scale voluntarily. The study was started to be conducted with the translation of ChIAto Turkish. The equivalency between the scale's version in its original language and the version in Turkish was examined by using the post-translation questioning technique and back-translation methods. Confirmatory factor analysis was used for construct validity and criterion-related validity was calculated to examine the correlation with similar constructs. For item and reliability analyses, Cronbach's alpha and test-retest coefficients were calculated. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, it was found that the ChIA is adapting in four sub-dimensions and all items fit into the relevant sub-scale as in the original scale. In order to test criterion-related validity of the AESC, the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAI-CH), which was developed by Speilberger (1973) and adapted to Turkish by Özusta (1995), and the Children's Negative Cognitive Error Questionnaire (CNCEQ), which was developed by Leitenberg, Yost, Carroll- Wilson et al. (1986) and adapted to Turkish by Karakaya et al. (2007), were used. A significant positive correlation was found between the total scores of the ChIA and the scores of the CNCEQ and the STAI-CH. As a result of the item and reliability analyses, Cronbach's alpha values and test-retest reliability coefficients of the sub-dimensions were found to be high. The findings show that Turkish version of the Children's Inventory of Anger is a valid and reliable scale that can be used to evaluate situations that cause danger in children and to measure the impact of the way of expression of anger and the anger itself on personal relations.
