Factors determining the musical hearing perception in children

Musical hearing is the most important element of musical talent. Musical hearing, which can be measured with some indicators especially from early childhood, will make it possible to emerge good musicians in the future if supported by musical education.Among the musical ability tests, the subject of musical hearing has been emphasized in a lot of studies conducted since Carl Seashore in the early 1900s. Musical hearing occurs with musical awareness, in other words, musical hearing perception. Musical hearing perception consists of some subheadings. These subheadings vary environmentally and individually. In this study, the roles of the factors that make up the perception of musical hearing perception are examined, with special emphasis on measuring musical ability through musical ear and rhythm perception. The aim of the study is to develop a musical hearing perception test that makes it possible to realize musical hearing perception in early childhood which may be applied with simple musical knowledge, to experimentally examine the factors that create musical hearing perception in children and to reveal the roles of these factors. During the development process of the musical hearing perception test, which was applied only to the 9-12 age group, was used in the field research with the experimental method after providing some necessary conditions such as reliability and validity. During the application process of the study, both open-ended and multiple-choice data were obtained by remote interview method with the musical environment recognition forms prepared for parents. As a result of the research, the findings obtained by examining the factors that make up the musical hearing perception of children were evaluated.
